A lush tropical fantasy of couture-exotic birds and plants made of luxe materials display Irene’s beautiful jewelry. Several smaller display cases were also designed for the ‘library’ room of the store. Clare also created holiday paper goods for the company.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Commune Design hired Clare to make a diorama in the lobby of their Palm Springs hotel. She created a magical desert scene to salute the hotel’s surroundings with the flora and fauna of the region. The scene is a bit fantasized, of course. The bejeweled coyote in the diorama became a mascot for the acclaimed hotel and has adorned stationary, t-shirts, flip-flops, and has been tattooed on several human bodies!</image:caption>

Years later, she presented a crocheted Mardi Gras feast at Heath Ceramics showroom in Los Angeles. The show was quite popular and later travelled to a group show in Culver City called Palette curated by Roger Gastman, and then to New Orleans as part of the Prospect 3 Triennial. A spin-off show, The Crocheted Oyster Bar, followed by Paper Magazine’s Super Duper Mart where you could purchase a crocheted oyster, lemon, and hot sauce. David Byrne and Agnes Gund were oyster customers!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Clare conceptualized and curated The Mini Show at The Lodge Gallery in Hollywood. Every detail was included down to the dry leaves and trash outside the door on Western Avenue. The Mini Show was an exact miniature of the gallery space with tiny artworks made by big artists which included: Ed Ruscha, Miranda July, Robert Reynolds, Tierney Gearon, Louise Bonnet, Geoff McFetridge, Clare Crespo, and others. Included in the show were magnifying glasses, a tiny catalogue, and a small painting rack for the back room. It was written about in T Magazine, discussed on NPR, and delighted many visitors.</image:caption>

The Secret Life of Food was published by Hyperion Books’ adult and kids catalogues. It was sort of a cookbook, an inspirational creativity tool, an amusing coffee table book, and a kid’s story book all at once. It is much loved and has been printed many times in both hardcover and paperback forms. Both books were featured in many publications and television shows including: Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, The Today Show, CBS Sunday Morning, The New York Times, etc.</image:caption>

Their slogan was: “Honey, I Shrunk the Ace!” and Clare joyfully miniaturized Ace Hotel interiors, environments, and products. The resulting creations were then shot in various locations at the Ace Downtown LA to accentuate their elfin proportions. The photographs spread the season’s joy and made many smile. They were sold in DVD form on the internet as well as MOCA, The New Museum, and BookMarc, to name a few spots. The series was an option on The Ace Hotel’s In Room Entertainment. The show was much loved and Fremantle Media produced a second season of mini-episodes that were shot on a soundstage with more bells and whistles including John C. Reilly as a character. She wrote five fairy tales featuring five different jewelry collections and then illustrated these stories with couture creations. Complex character design and animation made the world come to life in a delightfully magical way. The site is a fresh original expression in the luxury world. She conceptualized and created an altar piece in the center of the lobby featuring delicate and magical porcelain snakes tied in complicated nautical knots. The piece’s intention is to appease the water gods and goddesses of this wet city. Clare also created bedside sculptures for all of the hotel’s suites — anatomical heart shrines made out of bits and bobs, hand-stitched sculpture, found treasures, and hand-painted mystical cards. <image:caption>Clare collaborated with ceramicist Heather Levine on a series of pieces celebrating nature’s nighttime pollinators. Clare finds a helpful lesson in the actions of moths and bats searching out night-blooming flowers and light sources. Observing their nocturnal dances reminded her to look for beauty and light in the human darkness. To celebrate this idea, Heather created flower vases, elegant candelabras, and table lamps out of clay, and Clare used underglazes and carving to express her fragile heroes’ inspiring actions. They showed this work in a beautiful garden in the early evening hours so the living pollinators could also attend. The show sold out.</image:caption>
